The arrival of June finds many species in the greater Wausau area active and readily biting. The smallmouth bass fishing continues to be steady with trophy fish of 20"+ showing up regularly. A variety of techniques are working right now making for an exciting entertaining time on the water. Try working a 3"-4" Pro Finesse or Powerbait tube along current breaks or blow-downs. A very under-rated largemouth bass bite has been going on as of late. Wisconsin Angling Adventures own Joe Szarkowitz recently teamed up with local bass master Ben Antoniewicz to capture 1st place in the Elk's Club Lake Wausau bass tournament – their 8 fish weigh-in was captured before 11:30am and consisted of all largemouth!

Walleye fishing has been going good with some nice fish showing up in their summer haunts. As post-spawn has turned into summer patterns, the walleyes have been more consistent with their locations and activity. Fish have been accessible to anglers whether casting jigs or crankbaits or trolling lures such as Flicker Shads and Wally Divers; pick your method and have at ‘em! Just recently, a 31 ½" specimen was captured on area water and there are more where that brute came from!

Musky season has been open since Memorial weekend and the fishing has been good despite the up and down weather. Numbers of fish are being caught and released on smaller bucktail-style offerings such as Mini Buchertails, Musky Things, and Mepps Musky Killers. The warmer weather as of late has also seen the surface bait bite get going. Try working a Dancin' Raider or Topraider around submerged weeds or wood for some exciting action. Some very large muskies have been spotted and hopefully will find their way soon into the bottom of our Frabill nets prior to being released! In addition, some very nice bonus pike have been caught and released in the past week on area water. We boated several pike in the 30" range last week and a beautiful 42" sow was released by a local angler on area water as well.

Tight lines,

Joel DeBoer

Bio: Greetings and welcome to the Northwoods! My name is Joel DeBoer; I grew up fishing the waters of Central and Northern Wisconsin and enjoying the beauty of Wisconsin's outdoors - I can guarantee you will enjoy them as well! As owner of Wisconsin Angling Adventures, I'll work hard to keep you on the fish and show you a good time out on the water! Through countless days and nights on the water, I have worked hard to uncover local "hotspots" while prefecting the techniques necessary to produce trophy fish from them. I have been an active member of Muskies Inc. and Bill's Musky Club, and am responsible for numerous awards for muskies caught and released by my clients as well as myself. In addition to guiding, I am an active musky tournament fisherman, having multiple Top 10 finishes. Not only do I fish tournaments for muskies, but a variety of local tournaments for walleyes and bass. I am active on the internet - providing articles and fishing reports to over 15 different web sites, in addition to doing web-radio shows. I am a published outdoor author and educator, including my weekly column, "The Guides Corner" in the Everest Herald. I specialize in multi-media presentations and seminars on the vast aspects of musky fishing. Please feel free to email me, at ANY time. In addition, take an opportunity to visit my bio pages at the St. Croix Rod or VMC Hooks Pro-Staff pages as a further reference.
