LAKE RAY ROBERTS FISHING REPORT:

Old man winter came to North Texas this week bringing freezing rain and snow at times Due to the weather I only made it to Lake Ray Roberts one afternoon this week so I do not have a lot to report. The lake level came up almost a foot , with the rain we got this week, making the current lake level down 7 ft. from normal level. All boat ramps are in good shape for launching boats this week. The water temperature dropped 5 degrees on the main lake, with the freezing weather, to a temperature of 42 degrees thursday afternoon. White bass fishing was good considering the major change in water temperature and the weather we have had in the last week. We caught 47 in 5 hours of fishing. Best bait for me was still Cotton Cordell CC Spoon ¾ oz. chrome color. Finding active fish that will bite in water as cold as it is now takes a lot of looking with electronics, they will be on the same structure they have been all winter. Looked at 8 different places thursday afternoon and only found a decent bite on 2 of the 8 places. Best activity level was 28ft. To 34ft. Almost all bites were with the bait held still just off the bottom. The bite is really light in this cold water and it takes a rod that is sensitive and lighter line helps. I am using 8lb. Line and an All Star 7ft. PRM rod for maximum feel of these light winter time bites. Call or email me to book a trip to Lake Ray Roberts if you want to learn to catch cold water Sand bass.

Tip of the week:

Going to the lake to fish in the middle of winter you need to be prepared for anything that can happen.

There is not a lot of boats on the lake this time of year so if you have problems on the water you need to be prepared. Dress warmer than you think you need to because on that 42 degree water in a boat it is a lot colder than the air temperature. Take a cell phone with you if possible, if not make sure somebody knows where you are going and when you will return.

Have a great fishing week,

Tim
