Blow wind, blow! A steady dose of 20 – 25 knot winds for a few weeks will change your perspective. What really is bad wind? At this point, I am convinced it's all good. It is what you make of it… and for me, it has been great. Managing my lightweight Maverick HPX-T in these high winds was tough work at times, but a little extra planning and patience yielded plentiful rewards this week. It is not without advantages either… extreme low tides, long distance casting ability (with wind at your back) and a great topwater bite.

After a sporty run from Islamorada, Richard and client caught several nice Snook…

Danny was a Trout catching machine…

Mike methodically caught and released several slot and over slot Redfish, Snook and Trout to complete his first Back Country Slam…

Buddy Yarborough caught several large Trout on a Rapala Skitterwalk…

… and proceeded to put a bunch of big Redfish in the boat.

There are plenty of Snook hiding in potholes... with the wind at your back, a long distance approach is easy.

Mike with his first tailing Redfish!

… and with his first "Flats" Snook. He would go on to catch a large Trout to compete his first ever Back Country Slam.

Tyler (http://www.CastawayCustoms.com) and I got out for a few hours on a rare day off…

We made short work of a dozen good fish, including two ten pounders and then called it an early morning. It was nice to feel a fish pull again...

I'm looking forward to more wind and more big fish this week!

Company: Fishing Flamingo

Area Reporting: Flamingo and Florida Everglades

Bio: I've been fishing in Everglades National Park for many years, in everything from the rented skiffs available at Flamingo Marina to my new 21' Hewes Redfisher. The water has been my home away from home since I was barely big enough to carry my rod to the nearest fishing hole. I grew up learning the canals and fresh water lakes of South Florida. Once I got tired of catching the same bass over and over, I discovered the larger saltwater fish and was hooked for good.
