Despite the weather the fishing has been great! We have had some nice catches of redfish working the shallow flats in Buzzards Bay, behind Masonboro Island and around the docks at Carolina and Wrightsville beach. The speckled trout bite is going strong as well, and are mainly being caught in the creeks on a falling tide. They are small but there's a few nice ones mixed in. The flounder are biting well also.

Speaking of flounder, I accomplished a goal that I doubt I will ever get to top my entire lifetime. Today during a charter we brought in a 13 lb 4 oz flounder! It was 31 inches long and had a girth of 26 inches. I could put my fist in his mouth! This almost doubles my previous record of a 7 lb 7 oz citation flounder! This is truly a once in a lifetime fish. I have been chasing a double digit flounder for the past 10 years or more and I figured I would never accomplish this goal due to my love of red fishing and the time it consumes. Flounder are mainly by catch while fishing for redfish these days, but maybe its time to target them once again! This fish was caught at Wrightsville Beach and was still flopping around when it was weighed in at the Bridge Tender Marina. It was caught on a live 4 inch finger mullet.

Bio: Like many of us I have my father to thank for my love of fishing. I have been fishing since I can remember. Whether it was going out in his offshore boat looking for kings, fishing for flounder at the end of the street, or bass fishing in the middle of the winter at 5 a.m. with snow on the ground...we did it all. As I got older I took fishing very seriously and acquired numerous techniques to put the fish in the boat. I have both a fresh and saltwater background and have incorporated those techniques and tactics into my fishing arsenal which has become polished over the years and has proved to be very effective. As a Wilmington native, I have been fishing in the Cape Fear region for over 20 years.
