GRANDPA TAKES GRANDSON ON FIRST FISHING TRIP by Cecil Miller

Just returned from a great trip to Redding, Calif. to attend my Granddaughters graduation and take my Grandson on his first fly-fishing adventure. I contacted Outdoor Adventures at www.sacriverguide.com. and reserved a guide for 1 day on the upper Sacramento River and 1 day on the Trinity River. Unfortunately we were unable to drift the Trinity because of high water. But my grandson had a day fishing the Sac that he will never forget. His first catch was an 18" Rainbow, the largest fish he has ever caught. And top of that the first on a fly rod. The look on his face when he was trying to land it was priceless.

We really hit a great day on the water. The fly of the day was a #18 Prince Nymph. It was one of those days where you catch so many fish you don't even want to start counting. All the Bow's were in the 15-21" range. The picture above shows the last catch of the day, a double that guide had fun landing. With that we decided that was the end of a great days fly fishing and called it a day. It doesn't get any better than being out with my grandson on his first fly fishing trip and catching lots fish. The Sacramento River in the Redding area is considered one of the premier urban fresh water fishing areas in the United States. I plan to return in November and fish for Steelhead in the Trinity with this same guide service. And yes my grandson will be with me again. As a foot note I was able to fit in 2 rounds of golf with my son. Tough trip but someone had to do it and I sure am glad it was me.
