Louisiana Fishing License Info

We got you covered for almost everything you need for your fishing charter with Hook Dat Fishing Charters. However, as you prepare for your trip there are a few things you will need to do to ensure a safe, productive and enjoyable fishing experience. You will need to make sure you have the right clothing, food, drinks and most importantly a Louisiana fishing license. This is the three-day Charter Fishing License sold by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. If you are planning on fishing offshore for snapper, cobia, amberjack, grouper, etc. you will NOT need to get a Recreational Offshore Landing Permit (ROLP).  Your Louisiana Fishing Charter Captain is the only person on-board that is required to have the ROLP. A Charter ROLP covers all paying anglers on a charter trip.  However, obtaining the three-day charter passenger license is easy, and we will give you all the information you need to know.

What is a Charter Fishing License

A three-day non-resident Charter Fishing License allows you to fish from a charter vessel in saltwater areas of the state, with a licensed guide on board at all times. This is the only license you will need. You will not need to get the basic and saltwater fishing licenses. The three-day charter passenger license is valid for three consecutive days. The cost is only $10, a bargain compared to the cost of $90 for the basic and saltwater non-resident license!

How Do I Obtain a License?

There are several easy ways to purchase this license " over the phone by calling the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries at (888) 765-2602 or online. Be aware that there will be a small handling fee for phone and online payment options. Depending on your ordering method, here are some important things to note about Louisiana fishing licenses:

- When purchased over the phone, you will receive an authorization number for immediate use of your license as well as a physical copy of your license that will be mailed to your home.

- When you purchase your license online, you will NOT be mailed a physical copy of your license. Instead, you will be emailed a license in PDF format which can be printed and/or saved to your mobile device.

- If a license is purchased from your mobile device, you will receive a text with a temporary authorization number, as well as an email with a PDF form of your license. You may also take a screenshot of your digital license on your phone once you complete the purchase.

What Is A Offshore Landing Permit?

A Recreational Offshore Landing Permit (ROLP) is required to possess tunas, billfish, swordfish, amberjacks, groupers, snappers, hinds, cobia, wahoo, and dolphinfish in Louisiana waters. This permit is free of charge.

You do not need an ROLP if you do not fish offshore, if you only go offshore on charter boats as a client, or if you do not fish for or land those species. So, since you are fishing with Hook Dat Fisihing Charters and we are licensed charter captains, you will not need to get your own ROLP. Our captains have you covered.

Bio: I am 44 years old born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. I was fortunate to grow up fishing the inshore and offshore waters of Louisiana. I have fished both salt and freshwater my entire life all over the country and one thing is for certain. Nothing beats the beautiful pristine waters and marshes of the Sportsman\'s Paradise! I spend my winters guiding waterfowl hunters in the duck capital of the world at Cupped Wings Guide Service in Arkansas and my spring, summer and fall chasing Redfish, Speckled Trout, Flounder, Snapper, Black Drum or anything that will bite in Louisiana. I fish out of a 26 foot Caymas 26 HB hybrid center console bay boat. The boat is powered by a 300 HP Mercury Verado. Its fully rigged and ready for some serious fishing. I primarily focus on inshore and near coastal Fishing charters in Louisiana and offshore rig fishing in the Gulf of Mexico. ‍ We are a family friendly operation and are committed to making sure you, your friends, family and or clients have a safe, enjoyable and successful fishing experience. As a father of 3 beautiful girls, I feel it is important to gets more kids and women involved in our favorite outdoor sports like fishing and hunting.
