Mattern Guide Service on Lake Palestine & Sam Rayburn

Hello Everybody,

Philippians 3: Verses 13&14, Bretheren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do; forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before. I press toward the mark for the prize of the High calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Lake Palestine: Lake levels are a couple feet below full pool. Water is stained up North and moderate to clear, depending how close to the Dam you get. Water temps. have been running in the low 80\'s.

Bass are feeding on shad in the creek channels and will hit topwaters such as poppers, tiny topedoes, and shad patterned baits.

I have been using watermelon red flukes rigged on a 1/32 weighted hook in 5/0. Dipping the tails in Chartruse Spike-it. Bass have been good up to 7 lbs. one day and good up to 3 lbs. the next. You have to hit those Big Bass just right. Nichols spinnerbaits in blue-shad and Chartruse/White combo\'s have been working at times also. Caught some on Phantom stinko\'s(A Senko type bait Phantom makes that I like) in Watermelon Red. Rigging them wacky on a 1/32 ,2/0 weighted hook. I like those Falcon Lures weighted hooks the best. They seem to perform when the chips are down.

Moved out from the North end this week after clients caught alot of Bass in the Hidden ditches and channels of Kickapoo and old Folks Home areas to Mid- Lake. Used drop shot rigs with a 1/8 ounce weight on bottom rigged with a 1/0 owner rigging hook about a foot up the line and I like to use a green pumpkin with red flake Gambler worm. It is a 7 inch worm but it catches some 6-7 lbers. also sometimes. Using a spinning reel spooled with 10 lb. soft Berkley line. Caught about 6 Bass up to 4 lbs. worked the isolated stumps off points, Islands where deep water came up to the cover.

I will be on Sam Rayburn Thursday(The Lord willing) and have a fresh report by Friday. If you would like to Fish Lake Palestine or Sam Rayburn just give me a call or E-mail me.
