Seems like things are starting to take great shape for a great Speckled trout season in Delacroix. I am getting limits and then even catching and releasing big trout after our limits are taken. Last week I had 2 charters and we had limits on both dyas of specks 13-21" mostly the 15-16" class but a lot of 3 pound fish all coming on tight-lined plastics. One of those days we didn't even have any tidal movement. I did a trip yesterday with a group of guys and we got on 'em real early but got blown out at about 9:00. We had about 35 real nice trout and 4 bull reds 27-30" when we left for the cover of the marsh. We finished up with a couple of more good reds and just about got their limit of specks in a 15-20 knot east wind.

I am discovering that all of the beds of the old structures out in the bay that have been dismantled due to the storm, are holding fish. This is due to the fact that all of the shell that was placed on the bed of the bay when they constructed these platforms and structures is still there along with oyster beds now mixed in. It is kind of weird to be casting out in "open water", with no visible stucture to cast to, and hooking up with hard strikes from big specks. It's a GOOOOOD kind of weird. Thank goodness for GPS!!! These structures were marked last year right after the storm when I decided to get my first GPS. I really didn't need one "Pre-K, but I am certainly glad I did after Katrina when I saw all of the destruction. It is paying off ten fold.

Give me a call and lets get a trip booked for your group before all of the good dates get taken up.

The camp has been totally rebuilt and is now available for your on-site accommodations, and it is a really awesome lodge now. We have all of the same emenities as before. A 80x100' covered dock on the bayou, where you can gather to have seafood boils, or grill up some of those tasty redfish on the 1/2 shell, or do a little night fishing or bait up our crab traps and catch your own crabs to boil.

The neighboring community of Chalmette is really coming back strong. There are many really good restaurants now open, including the famous "Rocky & Carlos". Hope to be fishing with you guys "reel soon".

Reel Regards,

Capt. Billy Bucano
