Knock out fishing the past few days. Huge Redfish, Slot Reds, and Trophy trout were caught by our guests at the "Redfish Lodge"

David Richardson and his group had an absolute blast, presenting a variety of baits and slamming the Reds. There were several times when there were four on at one time. Rods bent, lines screaming out, total chaos!!! From 5- 40 pounds it was a guess to what was on the line, that was of course until the line continued to scream and controlling the fish was out of the question. That's when you knew it was a monster. On 7' light action Okuma rods, the GIANTS give you all that you can handle. Each day they fished we targeted a different location and the results were the same. Fish at all locations !!

Clint Willis a very established author (google his name, pretty interesting) , whom has written many books fished the last couple of days with me. Commissioned to write a story on the top 6 destinations to fish, Venice La. was picked as the number ONE destination. Having the privilege to fish with Clint we decided to try and catch Reds in a number of ways and that we did. From waters less than a foot to waters up to 25 feet we did it all.

Started off the first day in waters 2-3 feet and first cast had on about a 35 pound Red. Using a 3/8 ounce jig head and a plastic tail I thought the fish was well hooked. Fish came un-buttoned about 10 feet from the boat. No problem as for the next two hours it was steady action. Fish at the first spot averaged about 15-30 pounds.

Moved to the second spot, a deeper area 18-25 feet deep. First cast out, double hook up and Clint and I were bowed over, hunkered down on two Brutes.

Third area we went to was a large flat, 1-3 feet of water and popping corks with jigs suspended under were deployed and YES the fish were there as well. Couple 35 pounders were caught and released. Fish on the flat were 10-35 pounds with most on the upper end.

Second day: Started on the flat we ended on the day before. Double on, of course Clint's was the monster about 38 pounds and mine was about 18. Couple more and it was time for a change; my favorite SIGHT CASTING.

Worked my way back into the canes, into small pockets of clear, clean water. These pockets ranged in size from a few yard across to 1-2 acres across, but they ALL had fish in them. It was really awesome as we stalked, caught and released several fish from 8-40 pounds.

To be able to watch a 40 pound Red move around in 2 feet of water, present a bait then watch her explode on the bait is AWESOME!! The fight is second to none as these giant beasts tear up a small pond. The hardest part about the fight is keeping them out of the sharp canes.

It was a great time, spent with a great guy!

Now believe it or not, we had 70 plus temperatures two days ago, woke up to snow today, Can you believe SNOW south of New Orleans!! and suppose to be up in the 70's again by Saturday (two days). Crazy, Crazy weather!!
