Smith Lake

December 19th, 2011

I changed up my launch point this morning and left out of Misty Harbor. It's was my first time since summer being there. The ramp is still in good shape, but the dock that's a different story. I almost busted a couple time walking down the dock. It a combination of a "slip in slide" and a suspended bridge, not a good mix. After making it to the boat, I felt like the hard part of the day was behind me. I started off chasing convicts on the left side of Miller's Flat. After boating several, with the biggest only weighing 10 pounds I decided to headed to Goat Island. I spent 2 hours fishing around goat island and picked up 6 fish. As the striped bass bite slowed, I changed gears and switched too bass. With two different Alabama Rigs, I started chunking. I fished three different size swimbaits, ranging from 3 1/2" to 5". I made a run and pulled up to a spot where I saw a lot of fish hold close to the bottom. I was fishing an area with depths of 30', with the fish at 26'. I boated 14 fish in 1 hour, with two doubles. I'll have pictures of the biggest double up on my websitesTuesday afternoon. This technique will be responsible for almost every tournament win in this up and coming year. I will be fishing this rig year round, with different set ups to adjust to the weather. I'll be on the water most of the week, give me a call if your interested in fishing Smith Lake.
