The Eagle can be a lot of fun this time of year. The key to having a good day is to fish the stretches of water down stream form water treatment plants.

The Avon and Edwards treatment plants pull water out of the river and return it at a greater temperature, this warmer water keeps the river open and helps melt the floating ice chunks. The absence of ice in the water is critical to enable your flies to drift on the bottom. Winter fishing means nymphing on the bottom. If your strike indicator does not tick as you send your drift though the lane, YOU ARE NOT DEEP ENOUGH.

Set up a nymph rig with a twenty incher and a midge to beat up on the bows and browns. The early bird get nothing but cold, fish between noon and 2pm for best results. Don't be afraid to head down valley to Gypsum and fish down stream of the Gypsum plant, they pull and put water back as well and the fishing has been good there lately.
