Monday July 6th I had a full day trip scheduled for Dave and Kathy Vickers on Black Lake. Dave and Kathy rode their motorcycles all the way from Massachussetts to fish with me. Unfortunately the day began with threatening skies and distant thunder. Kathy decided to stay in the cabin while I took Dave out for what turned into a half day trip. Dave caught seven largemouth with the largest being 4 1/2 pounds. All but one came on shiners.

The artificial bite has slowed down compared to a couple of weeks ago. The smallmouth should begin picking up soon as they begin to group up on shoals and points. Shiners and live crayfish are still most recommended for novice fisherman. For more experienced anglers, you still can't beat the Senko for consistent bites from both species. Topwaters and jigs are good on bigger fish when placed in the right spot.

Good fishing,
