Lake Fork

Water Temp: 76 - 81

Water Clarity: Lightly Stained to clear

Well, I really thought fishing would really pick-up…and it has, but not nearly the way it needs to! Numbers and size have come up dramatically since my last report, but we've got a lot of room for improvement!!!

The Bandit bite has finally come alive and so have the catfish. One thing about this time of year and for the next month is that if you fish shallow and are throwing spinnerbaits, Rat-L-Traps or a Bandit it is very possible that you'll catch a very nice cat! For shear numbers and a few good ones shallow is the way to go. Either by throwing a Scum Frog early or a pop'r, then switching over to a Bandit 100 series in a Baby Bream or a Chartreuse Shad. Wacky-rigs are working as well in Red Bug. Secondary points and main lake banks are the key areas to hit and make sure you have plenty of vegetation around.

The deep bite is trying to pick up as well, especially around the main lake points with wood cover. Red Bug on a Carolina-rig with working best. The better water depth as been from 8 to 15 feet deep, covering that first break-line.

With the upcoming forecasts I'm positive the numbers will get better each day. Check out the "Fat Girls" on my web site and give me a holler, as I would like to be your guide!

The pictures of some of our catch are on the 2007 "Fat Girls" page on my site, www.fishinwithjeff.com. All of the fish pictured are of fish over 4 pounds, unless it is a child or woman. However, in a lot of cases those pictures will exceed that barrier throughout the year.

There are still fish on the beds over a good portion of the lake. "IF" you are wanting to sight fish please be considerate of those anglers who aren't sight fishing. Most likely you're going to catch larger fish by not sight fishing anyway and you can catch more fish.

Bio: Since starting a guide service many years ago I have looked forward to every day on the water. It's absolutely amazing to get to witness the things others only get to hear and read about. My father is the one who first put a rod and reel in my hands at a very early age (4 or 5 yrs. old). You might say I even cut my teeth on Largemouth Bass Fishing. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I'd be fishing for a living. There are only two things I know how to do; play a trumpet and catch bass.
