After 4 years of annual bow trips with me Dean and his son Riley finally got a chance to do a mountain walk & wade with me. After the unreal trip they had on the bow I had a lot of work to do if I was going to give them their best trip of their life, which is always our goal.

We start the day with a bang as Dean hooked this amazingly thick and heavy cutbow that smoked a stonefly dry drifting in a tight pocket behind a boulder. The day just kept getting better from there. Riley and Dean just kept hooking one big cutty or cutbow after another.

I was climbing on the rocks trying to spot big fish feeding when we found fish feeding on midges and mayflies. Riley hooked a gorgeous cutty on a beautiful cast when the real excitement started. While fighting his cutty a big bull started chasing the fish. I told Dean to drop his dry fly rod and cast the streamer rod that I had already setup with a big streamer and stonefly nymph. The cutty was now sideways in the bulls mouth. When the bull lost his death grip on the cutty Dean cast in and the bull hit right away. We then landed a 19" cutthroat and a 27" bull...not a bad double header, and all this before lunch.

After lunch the unthinkable happened and the fishing got even better then the unreal morning e had had. Dean and Riley hit a Green Drake hatch that saw monster cuts and cutbows smoking any well presented cast they put in the strike zone....it was absolutely amazing! At the beginning of the day they asked what size fish to expect and I said fish around 14". The running joke was they had caught so many 18-20" fish that we'd have to catch dozens of 6" fish if we wanted the average size to come down to 14". By the end of the day they had landed over 20 fish in the 18-20", unreal for a high mountain stream...definitely an epic day on the water.

Since I wasn't rowing today I had hands free and was able to get a lot of great pics so if you want to see more pics of this trip or other trips check out our Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Out-Fly-Fishing-outfitters-bowrivercanadacom/47790722022
