JULY 8th ....windy...no fishing

JULY 9th ... windy...no fishing

JULY 10th ..Full-day ..Michael Salzhauer, Todd Bassen and Ron Solars..Fly and Spin.

We fished from Michael's 27 foot Edgewater and headed out to the Gulls. We found Bluefish everywhere, on the surface and below ..... everyone hooked up.

We then moved a little north of Little Gull where Michael landed the first Striper measuring 24 inches. He then followed it up with another of about 10 lbs. Michael was "High Hook" with variety: two Stripers, a 4 lb. Porgie, a 23 inch Fluke and a dozen or so Bluefish all on the Fly.

Todd Bassen had a good day as well. Beside catching a bunch of Bluefish he also hooked up with two large Stripers that got away. We did get to see one of them, it had to be near 30 lbs. most likely lip hooked. He also landed a 5 foot long Sand Shark that took about 20 minute to get to the boat.

Ron Solars had a stella day! Lots of Bluefish and then a 14 lb. Striper and a 27 lb. Striper.

JULY 11th ...Morning ... Adam Bogomol and his dad Charlie ... Light Spin Tackle.

I headed out to the Gulls again with some live Eels. We didn't see any Bluefish along the way or at the Gulls when we arrived but we had no trouble landing Stripers!

Adam hooked up and landed two Stripers of 8 and 10 lbs.

Charlie landed five Stripers: 9, 10, 12, 14 and 17 lbs. and this was his first time fishing light spin tackle (10 lb. test) for Stripers.

JULY 13th ... Afternoon ... Glen Mathis and his friend Tom ... Light Spin Tackle.

My morning charter got blown out due to north winds but it calmed down by the afternoon. I once again headed out to the Gulls and we found Bluefish everywhere, both anglers hooked up and landed fish in the 6 to 8 lb. class .... as many as they wanted. Glen landed one small Striper of 28 inches while Tom kept landing Porgies, "BIG PORGIES" lol.

JULY 14th ... Afternoon ... Frank Thomas ... Fly-fishing.

This would turn out to be my first slow day on the water this season. Frank did manage to hook-up and land one small Striper (22 inches) near Eastern Plains Pt.

and a little later on two Bluefish out at the Gulls.

JULY 15th ... Morning ... Blake and Mariah Davis ... Fly and Spin.

This was my second slow charter with no Bluefish anywhere. I later found out that large schools had moved towards Montauk, both north and south sides but you can't be everywhere. Mariah was using light spin tackle with a live Eel but couldn't raise any Stripers while Blake was on the bow, Fly-fishing and not having any luck, not even a Porgie. Out near Goff Pt. Mariah landed a 22 1/2 inch Fluke using a small rubber bait in shallow water. We then headed to a spot I call Paradise and with a low tide as we started drifting the flat Mariah hooked with a Bluefish that cut the line and ran off with a Rubber bait. We spotted a group of about five Stripers on this flat but had no shot at them as they came from the deep behind us and passed under and away from the boat ...super fast! We then tried the cut at Cartwright with the in-coming tide and had two shots at Stripers but no hook-ups.

JULY 15th ... late day ... Stan Rubin ... Fly-fishing.

At 4:00 pm I headed out for Cartwright and with a slack high tide I poled on the flat in the cut. We had great light behind our backs and could see nearly 40 yards.

The first school of three Stripers came from out left side about 50 feet away. Stan lay out a nice cast in their path and the lead fish was right on it at the first strip of the line ............. hook-up and in 3 minutes we had it on the boat, a nice 26 inch Striper. Stan managed to land three more Stripers of about the same size in the next half hour and then the water started moving out.

I moved locations to another flat where Stan lost a few flies to Bluefish, then landed a few blues and later two more smaller Stripers of about 20 inches.

DUE TO THE LOWER PRICE OF FUEL AT THE MARINA'S, I HAVE BROUGHT MY CHARTER PRICES BACK DOWN TO $400.00 -FOR A HALF-DAY AND $600.00 FOR A FULL-DAY ... THESE ARE 2007 PRICES AND I HOPE IT HELPS WITH THE ECONOMY HURTING EVERYONE.

Bio:  Hi, my name is Capt. Ken Rafferty and welcome to my web site. I am a Fishing Guide located on the East End of Long Island, N.Y. based in Three Mile Harbor, East Hampton. I have been Fishing these waters for over 30 years and Guiding for the last 15 of those years. I'm told I'm an amicable and a patient Guide who will go out of his way to make your day on the water a pleasant and successful one. In the early spring ( MAY ) you can choose to go for Stripers and Weakfish and soon after as the season progresses ( JUNE ) those tenacious Bluefish arrive and stay with us all summer long right into the late fall, joined by larger Striped Bass that like to hide among the rocks in our bays, harbors and on our flats where you can go site-fishing for them. In the fall season ( SEPTEMBER, OCTOBER, NOVEMBER ) the harbors, inlets and bays get inundated with bait fish such as Sand Eels, Bay Anchovies, Squid, Bunker, Herring and right there to feed on them before migrating south are larger Striped Bass, giant Bluefish, Bonito and False Albacore that can range up to 15 lbs.
