Yesterday, April 19 we caught Wahoo and Mahi Mahi. We caught the Wahoo trolling light tackle just off the rocky point in front of the harbor. We then caught a 10 lb skipjack tuna and live baited it for a Blue Marlin. A bull Mahi Mahi showed up instead and pounced on our bait. We then trolled the remainder of the day for Blue Marlin but no luck. A few days ago we lost a Blue Marlin estimated weight at over 700 lbs just a mile outside the harbor. The Springtime Marlin fishing is typically fewer but larger Blue Marlin.

A typical day in Kona is to try light tackle for Wahoo early in the morning. Then we troll down to one of my favorite spots, the Keauhou ledge where we catch a few nice skipjack tuna for live baiting. Using a circle hook, we bridle up the skipjack and slow troll them for Blue Marlin, Mahi Mahi or Ahi. It is a rare day when something doesn't hit our live bait.

May and June are beautiful times in Kona. Very calm waters along with warm tropical weather makes for a great day out on the water. May is a great time to fish Kona with a large variety of fishing available.... Blue Marlin, Wahoo, Spearfish, Mahi Mahi and Ahi are here in May/June. Last May we landed a 963 lb Blue Marlin which was our largest fish of the year.

Summer fishing is also just around the corner, so book early. We are quite busy during the summer as that is our peak time for Blue Marlin, Ahi and Wahoo. Summertime is also our tournament fishing time. If your are interested in fishing one of the many fun tournaments in Kona, please email for information.
