The Kona deep sea fishing during April is for Blue Marlin, Wahoo, Spearfish and Mahi Mahi. Overall, the fishing this entire winter/spring has been excellent for Blue Marlin....the best in years! The Wahoo have finally showed up and are providing some light tackle action on the rocky points near shore. Also, the Spearfish showing up in greater numbers. The water temps have warmed up 3 degrees just this past few days and the Kona fishing has improved with the advent of the warmer waters.

Yesterday, HighNoon landed two Mahi Mahi and just missed two Spearfish and a striped Marlin for Jerry Stevens from Hamilton, Montana and his two sons. The day before, John Hill from San Francisco landed two Ahi, one 140 lbs and the other 90 lbs. Earlier this week, we landed a rare Mako Shark while live baiting for Blue Marlin. Also this past week, HighNoon landed a nice 370 lb Blue Marlin for Jody Lawter from South Carolina.

Kona Hawaii fishing during the spring usually begins with a quick troll by the rocky point in front of the harbor for Wahoo. We can then switch over for Blue Marlin and other big game fish as we head to one of the FAD bouys or ledges for some skipjack and small yellowfin tuna. We can then bridle these up as live bait for Blue Marlin, Ahi and Mahi Mahi. The Spearfish are beginning to bite in greater numbers and that action should continue through May. The Wahoo have just begun showing up along the ledges just outside the harbor and catching these great tasting fish are a bonus. The Wahoo fishing should continue to be very good through July. If we do land one of these great eating fish, I am happy to filet it up for you following the charter. On more than a few occasions lately we have stopped off at Captain Cooks monument while our anglers took a short break and snorkeled in the crystal clear waters of the best snorkeling in Hawaii.

The February issue of Marlin Magazine features Captain Dee Bradford and HighNoon in it's lead article about lures versus live bait for Blue Marlin fishing.
