The Detroit River continues to give up limits of walleyes by jigging or handlining. Most are jigging in the regular spots like Peche Island, Cow pature, Pillette Park, Casino, Ambassador Park and of course the Salt Mine. Some fat ones are still being taken on the river and Lake Erie is heating up as well.

I had the chance to fish with Kyle Schuchard of Essex and we landed a number of walleyes trolling Northland crawler harnesses. We were using Off Shore Tackle OR-12 in line boards to spread the lines away from the boat. Best results came while using blades with a bit of orange on them. We fished west of the Colchester Marina in 15-25 FOW.

Fishing for Erie eyes will continue long into the summer as most know Erie is the walleye capital of the world.

Look for walleye action to pick up on Lake St. clair when the water clears. Currently the lake is muddy due to the NE winds we have been experiencing. Try the east end off Tremblays Beach with harnesses or small cranks to great the migrating walleyes in the boat.

Looking at results from last yr the Detroit River also gave up limits of walleyes going into July.

Last week I had the chance to fish for Lake Trout with Team-X and we had a blast jigging lakers from 75 feet down with a variety of techniques. We used jigging spoons, drop shot rigs and the good ole Detroit River jig with a plastic minnow to tempt the critters and it all worked. While in our travels we seen 5 moose which made for great photos.
