Fishing Report For Week of Sept. 16th 2007, Master Baiter's Sportfishing and Tackle

Written by: Stan Gabruk

After the middle of September, Puerto Vallarta sees a dramatic downturn in tourism at this time of year. The kids are back in school, the sunburns are healing and the credit card bills are rolling in from vacation spending here in Puerto Vallarta (PV). So it's safe to say the "family" vacationers are gone until the Thanksgiving holiday season is upon us once again. But that's not to say Puerto Vallarta is a ghost town. It's this time of the year when attendance is down that the fishing grounds boil with Black Marlin, Monster Yellowfin Tuna, and of course Sailfish!

It's at this time of the year that the serious Anglers, waiting for the Monsters to arrive, begin showing up. That's not to say what's been happening in our World Famous Fishing Grounds in the past few weeks is anything to complain about. But if you've waited to hear news of big fish before you booked your trip, well, THERE ARE MONSTER YELLOWFIN TUNA WAITING FOR YOU AT EL BANCO!

That's right folks El Banco or The Bank is going off like a Volcano, literally! Monster Yellowfin Tuna, all over 200 lbs easy, are launching themselves out of the water like a Hurling Lava Rocket as they slash through monsterous Skip Jack bait balls! Take a look at the picture, this is Tom Maracle with his 375 lb. Black Marlin, 300 lb. Yellowfin, and several nice sized Dorado caught on Pecositas with Captain Hector. 12 hrs trips are paying the big dividends this week and will only continue to get better into November leading up to the Pez Vela Tournament in late November. Marlin are averaging in the 400 to 800 lb range, with no Granders (1,000+ lb Marlin) boated as yet this season, but we're due! Dorado on tap, and they're not very picky. Just get a shiny bait in front of them and prepare yourself for a "E" Ticket ride amigo.

Corbetena, while not dead, has been showing little in the way of Marlin and Yellowfin. The structure still offers Cubera Snappers or Pargo at will. It's a no brainer, a wounded looking bait, fluttering it's way downward is like offering the little woman a new credit card with no limit, they just can't resist it! They fight like a small Marlin, taste as good as Dorado (I think better) and dead bait works well. Pargo are always in the 50 lb range and up, so take my tip, you won't be disappointed.

El Morro and the Marietta Islands have been like driving into a fast fish district. Find the trash line, three inch diamond jig, go home with a full fish box and arms that are crying "Uncle"….. Rooster fish, Sails, Torros, Bonito, Mackerals, lots of game fish to choose from….

Plenty of bait, Clear skies, smooth seas, Blue water and big fish. Water Temperatures are perfect, hotel rates are low until mid October and you can be the king of PV for a week after you boat that Finned Fantasy you've always dreamed of…..

The other picture featured this week is of Magnificos Capt. Alonso, Charles Faison from Jacksonville Florida and First Mate Charlie with this 600 lb Black Marlin. A beauty that was short and fat. Fought for 4 hrs on 130 lb. fluorocarbon leader and a Shimano 80…..

Master Baiter's is still out there painting the Graffitti with your help and donations. The city of Puerto Vallarta never came up with the paint as we were promised. So we're bearing this burden alone. If you'd care to donate time or money, please contact me at letsfish@mbsportsfishing.com and become part of the solution! Lets keep Puerto Vallarta clean and beautiful. We all live here together.

Until next week, don't forget to kiss your fish!
