Mattern Guide Service on Sam Rayburn,Palestine, and Lake Fairfield

Hello Everybody,

LUKE 15: Verses 21-24; And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called your son.

But the Father said to His servants, Bring forth my best robe, and put it on him. and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet. And bring the fatted calf, and kill it, and let us eat and be merry.

For this my son was dead, and is alive again, he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.

SAM RAYBURN: Well I have been out of comission for about 2 months. A wheel came off my boat trailer hub and all but thank God Ranger honored their warranty on it and replaced everything free of charge. It took so long because of the long shut down through the Holidays.

But Praise God I am fishing again. Bass fishing on Rayburn has been like pulling teeth. The water temps have been 49 after those terrible freezing temps we had.

The bass have been hitting trap like baits in reds and shad colors but you have to cover alot of water. Also a Texas rigged Green Pumpkin Pepper Salty Mother Sinker made by Nichols Lurs fished real slow along pockets produced some fish for me.

The opener Bass and Bucks tournament was Saturday and 21 lbs. + won it. They had a 10 + lber and there was also a 11 + lber. caught in the tournament. There are some real Hogs full of eggs just waiting for that water temp to rise in the upper 50"s or lower 60's to start the Big Pre-Spawn Bass movement that will be producing some double digit fish.

This weeks 50-60 degree nights and 70 degree days will give the water a great help to get those temps up for January and February.

Lake Palestine: Water is in the 40's and the rattle shads from Nichols and traps worked near the channels along the flats have been producing some up to 5 lbs. Texas rigged Creature baits in Watermelon Red and Junebug by Nichols or Baby Brush hogs same colors rigged Texas style worked slow around the channels of the creeks in 5-12 foot have been working also.

This week will bring water temps up and make alot better bite.

LAKE FAIRFIELD: The bite has been even tough on this warm water lake. Those extended freezing temps shook the fish up but the bite is starting to come back and will get better and better for Bass and Redfish as the water temps get in the 60's all over the Lake.

Right now the discharge cove is abot 70 and the main Lake is running about 57. The clients I took out for Redfish got into about 6 redfish and boated 4 about 3-4 lbers.

Dead bait was not working so we used babybrush hogs carolina rigged to catch them./ One Guide told me He had blanked out the day before so I felt pretty good for the bites we got.

Redfish were on points in about 3 - 8 foot.

The Bass are really slow with the same rig catching a few and crankbaits that run 8 -10 foot catching some quality Bass. Good colors were Tennessee Shad and the Mistake color from Bandit. I downloaded some pictures of the Redfish so you could see a salt water Redfish caught out of a Freshwater Lake. Pretty Cool.

Fishing is fixing to bust loose. If the Lakes warm up later the cold fronts will not totally shut down the bite it the water temps stay up. Thanks and God Bless.
