Had a party ½ from NC the other ½ from SD. Never been offshore before. Ran 40 miles and found a half degree break, and some scattered grass. 28 fathoms. Set first line out, before even getting the second out line starts screaming. 30# wahoo. Try to get the whole spread out again. Wham, another bite then another. 1 for2. Worked the ledge from 28-30 fathoms. 2 cudas on the planer and another wahoo up top. Found some grass patties about a mile from there Picked up one small dolphin. Heard some radio talk of a sailfish bite and some bigger dolphin on a good weed line just offshore of us. Worked our way out to the line, as soon as I turned on the line the long left goes off. Drop back and nothing. One of the wahoo baits that we left out got hit by a bill. Trolled the line a short while and picked up one more small dolphin. Could have bailed all you wanted, but the party wanted the bigger fish, So back where we started in the morning. Pick up 1 hoo, make a circle then all hell breaks loose. Bridge pole goes off, got him on. Planer rod goes off, right long goes off, comes un buttened. Left short goes off , brand new p/w jr islander, got him on. Nope. Another hoo airs out 6' and cuts the leader. Crank in the planer rod, wire leader cut. We finally get the fish on the bridge pole in, nice 40#. Get one more and time to go, Left em biting. Dark colors with heavily weighted skirts and ballyhoo to run subsurface.
