Usually at this time of year we concentrate on fishing for bass in local rivers since they produce quite well. This has been a very unusual year with water levels at record heights due to all the rain we have been experiencing. We therefore changed tactics and fished North Pond. This water contains both large and smallmouth bass and is also known for big pike. The parties I fished with boated a total of 30 or so largemouth and smallmouth. Fish ran between 12 and 18 inches with one smallmouth estimated over 19 inches and 4lbs. This fish was caught on a Clauser minnow fly with a split bamboo flyrod. Although this particular client was targeting white perch, he was quite excited about his trophy catch since he was using his grandfather's 60 year old flyrod!
