Fishing Report for June 21, 2009 for Master Baiter's Sportfishing and Tackle

Seasonal Rains Have Begun, Fishing Improves Gradually!

Well, it´s hot and humid in Puerto Vallarta. Right now the days are a cool 85 degrees with a 84% humidity factor that makes it feel warmer. Now if you´re from Florida or Houston or even New Orleans, then this is on par for summer conditions. But if you´re from California, Arizona or the North West, you may just think you're a poached egg! It´s taken me years to get used to these conditions, so now I look forward to these hot days and sweltering nights. Especially when you know Yellowfin Tuna and Black Marlin love these conditions.

The hotels have reopened in Marina Vallarta and it looks like we may have turned the corner where tourism is coming back little by little. This naturally is good news for the local business owners who for the last three months saw no business coming off a disappointing high season with the economic woes of the states and the rest of the world. Now with cheap air fares and hotels running some incredible specials, Mexico, PV in particular, is dirt cheap and waiting for you along with our world class fishing. So if you´re an angler dreaming of Billfish and Tuna, then this would be a great time to set up a trip before the strong dollars slips back to reality! FYI, if you are planning on coming down anytime this year, remember you don´t have to be in Mexico to get pesos at a great rate! You can purchase them through American banks at the national rate, not the commission rate you´ll pay here in PV… something to remember amigos!

If you were here in Puerto Vallarta Fishing this past week you´d be one of the lucky few enjoying wide open fishing grounds without the fish being chased down from too many boats in the area. At our resident Marlin Mc Donalds, commonly known as El Banco, is still producing Black Marlin and Yellowfin Tuna ranging some days from 40 lbs to other when they´re around 100 lbs! Mahi Mahi are also in the area and ranging from 35 to 55 or so pounds. If you can´t get a strike in the high spots areas, head north and ten miles or so out on a heading of 320 you could remedy that problem. Remember, fish move, you have to be willing to do the same amigos!

Corbeteña is still alive and being its versatile self. Sails, Marlin and of course Yellowfin Tuna as well. Same size as what is happening at El Banco. Some days Corbeteña is better than El Banco, so keep an ear out for a recent report as to where to go. Your fuel dollar depends on it!

For the last weeks the area off Punta Mita islands there have been very large Pargo (aka Dog Tooth Snapper, Cubera Snapper, Dog Snapper) in the 75 lb range and this is rare amigo. Mahi Mahi, Sailfish, Rooster Fish as well are around the islands and has been a very reliable location for non-risk takers.

Inside the bay the fishing has improved considerably. With the trash lines forming in the bay due to the rains, the small game fish are once again invading the usual places. Snappers, Mahi Mahi, Mackerals, Jack Crevalls, Bonito, you name it. For the fly fishing enthusiast, this is what the doctor ordered.

For those interested in going fishing, Master Baiter's is giving everyone who charters our company guaranteed boats at this time (company boats only in Marina Vallarta) a free hour fishing with every charter (except 12 hr charters). We are also throwing in a free T-shirt to who ever catches the biggest fish! That's about a $125.00 usd value. Take advantage of this limited time offer.
