Stripers- The Striper fishing has been very good one day and a little tough the next. If you are where they are feeding on a particular day, consider yourself blessed. The next day they may be in the same area but not want to bite. If this is the case, keep moving. Most of my Striper fishing has been on the lower end of the lake. There are two techniques that I have been using. One is flatlining Bluebacks across main lake points and humps. I have also been working downlines with them but with little success. I just seem to be feeding the Spots with downlines. Most of our bites are coming off of a planer board fished up close to the bank or the flat line that is closest to the bank. All of our Stripers have come out of 18 feet of water or less. When fishing this shallow it is important to keep the boat moving and to not let as much line out the back as you would when fishing deeper water. This will help keep your baits from diving down into the green slime (sorry I don't know the technical term) that grows in the shallows this time of year. The second technique is the top water bite. The Redfin bite has been pretty good overall. Keep the bait on top and create a "v-wake". Retrieve it slow and steady. Oh I almost forgot, hang on tight! The Redfin has accounted for numerous big Spots while fishing for Stripers. We are fishing the Redfin in the same areas we are flatlining Bluebacks. The only difference is we are making a few cast and moving to the next point.

Bass- The Spotted Bass fishing is very good. The Saltwater Sammy and the Refin has been producing some really nice Spots over, main lake, points and humps with Brush. All of the Spots that we have caught over the last week are looking a bit ragged. Their fins are frayed and their tails look like the have been beat with a mallet. None of these big females have spawned but they should this week. If it is numbers of fish you are looking for. The grub is producing very well when fished shallow. Pockets and points are a good choice or you can just drop the trolling motor and go. The Lucky Craft pointer has been working well and catching both the shallow fish and the deeper females. There are many ways to catch Spots this time of year. The fish are up and aggressive. Oh I almost forgot, the Spottails are up and easy to catch. It's not that they are needed yet but it won't be long.

Crappie- The lower end of the lake has been producing a few nice fish when I get a chance to stop by and check a couple of my favorite spots. Focus on docks in the back of lower end creeks with lots of brush and structure underneath. I still like to fish with jigs but with limited time, after a trip, I have been using Crappie minnows to bring a few home for dinner.
