Captain Judy's Saltwater Fishing Report

Which includes:

Inshore report, Offshore Report, Freshies Suggestions, and "Little Miss Judy's Believe It or Not!" (Story)

Captain Kelly O'Brien "Lucky One" is back with Miss Judy Charters for fishing catching action!

Captain Kelly has re-powered and "sharpen her hooks!" The maiden voyage this past week turned out to be a success! Here's how it went:

Once arriving at the Savannah Snapper banks on their first bottom drop three big fish were broke off. Believe me this was not due to faulty equipment! It's a known fact that when you first drop down in an area where there is a defined ledge normally there are big fish. When one of these large fish hits your bait the first thing it wants to do is to drag it back to the ledge. Believe me, I have seen them almost take the one holding the rod with them! Ha Ha!

After "three big fish pulled off with quick fashion action" reel drags were tighten!" This would give the fishermen a little more control in turning the fish's head. When you hook up a big fish especially when bottom structure is involved, you must first get control of your hooked fish. Believe me, these are only seconds in which to take this stand. We always tell our customers about this, but until you are there you really won't get it. After all when we try to explain that a fish might grab your hooked bait and drag it under the ledge, "what fisherman is going to believe what could be called a tall fish tale unless they have experience the power possessed by these large bottom fish." (Another long sentence, but I think you got it!)

After re-grouping or should I say, "re-rigging" things in the bite to catch ratio increased. Two grouper and a nice red snapper were landed. (All fish were in the 20-pound class range.) Captain Kelly was showing customers some secret methods for landing their large hooked, when yet another occurrence took place. When her hooked grouper was pulled within seeing distance with all customer eyes peeled a large tiger shark appeared, gracefully ate the grouper, and move on as if it was only a small snack! This is when Captain Kelly figured out it was time to move on to the next spot. With this instance hopefully the "shark-feeding" portion of this trip "done did!"

When they arrived at the next fishing spot the customers starting pointing and screaming about the shark or remora that was swimming around the boat. Captain Kelly walked to the stern of the boat to take a look-see and it wasn't a shark, but a large 50-pound cobia. Apparently it has filled itself up on the leftovers and the parts that the customers had been feeding it. Even thought the cobia wouldn't eat anything presented on a hook a nice dolphin in the perimeter did! After that fish was landed it became apparent by all on onboard that this was not just a "fish catching event," but also an "ocean seeing adventure!" At this point, it seemed all that they had to do was "just look over the side for their next adventure!"

The bottom line to this report "if you don't go you won't know!" For those that want to go fishing with Captain Kelly "Lucky One" give us a call! (912 897 4921) "It's definitely open game at the Savannah Snapper Banks, because everything has arrived!"
