Hey everyone from all of us at Bayou Charters and the Silver Side Lodges, well February has been treating us good due to the warm temperatures that we have had so far this year. The fish have definitely reacted in our favor but are still scattered throughout the marsh of Hopedale. Last week we were still focusing on our favorite fish, the REDFISH, but the trout were showing up also in some of our redfish spots.

Captains Joe Vinson, Reed Gilmore and I Capt. Charlie had crews looking for some awesome action with a little fun too. The guys from Weyerhaeuser lumber products had two boats for two days with lodging at our lodge. We hit the reds good catching 52, 30 trout also and some largemouth bass in the mix. The best was that we caught the reds on gold spoons and under a popping cork. This allows us to change up the pattern sometimes and have fun either watching the cork go under or feel the hard strike of the reds when they inhale the spoons.

Also, we had Brandon Stephenson and his crew fishing with Capt. Reed hitting the redfish good and also catching one really big red about 25lbs. These young men all work on oil platforms in the Gulf and couldn't wait to come down and catch some really nice reds. Check out our Facebook page for pictures of this big fish.

I also had Nick Herzinger and his crew out for some redfish action last week. These guys were really fun to fish with, my kinda guys, good anglers and can tell some stories! Mohawk haircut to boot!! Well the fishing was good but not the greatest, we really had to work hard for our fish that day but we did catch some nice reds. We used spoons majority of the time trying to cover tons of water. The tide was super low and with the winds blowing the day before almost all of the water was dirty, but we got a good catch at the end of the day.

Last day for me on the water I had Dr. Pat Lonergen and his son PJ who is the center for the Kick butt 2011 LSU Fighting Tiger football team. Pat and PJ have been fishing with me for years and this was one of their monthly trips. With PJ off till the middle of February they got out for some speckled trout and redfish slam. The fish were not flying in the boat because the reds were missing the gold spoons like crazy! I am telling you at least 15 misses that day and it wasn't the anglers, the fish were just missing the bait??? Well we caught a bunch of reds and trout with some trout coming way of the MirrOlure MirrOdine XL.

It is getting to the season of artificial baits so don't forget to stock up on the TTF Killer Flats minnows in the Who Dat color, the fish are just starting to hit these baits and when they do they will be flying off the shelves just like last year!!

Well next week should be good, we have some more guys from Weyerhaeuser including the one and only "Stan Stan the Mullet Man Fleenor" out for some of his good fishing and fun personality. We have six boats out this week so we will see how things go. Also subscribe to our Youtube Channel http://www.youtube.com/captcharliethomason to get our latest fishing trip and instructional videos.
