Well the Mc Donald tournament is here. Tomorrow the lake will be full of eager contestants. There will be lights that will look Christmas all over the lake. The weather has some changes in the next couple of days and the wind is going to blow. The water temp is about 73 to 75 degrees and falling. We are at 4'6" low. This past weekend we had a two inch rain in some areas but did nothing for the lake. The fishing has been up and down for me. I think all the fronts have them confused right now. The wind has been blowing for a couple of days and some of my spinner bait areas have been hard to hold on. Because of the wind the fishing areas will shrink and stack the fishermen up in areas. Don't let your temper get the best of you. Everyone will have to have plenty of sportsmen ship. The grass edges have been good producers with frogs, buzz baits, spinner baits, weightless baits, and crank baits. Look for deep water close to the grass and fish very slowly. The top water action has been hit or miss on the pop'r type baits. But throw some type of top water from first light to 8 o'clock and then go to your worm type baits. The creeks have fish stacking up in them. Work a Texas or Carolina rig worm along the edges of the channel. Flipping a jig in these same areas can be very rewarding. Hit every stump and tree along the channel. Crankbaits in the middle of the creek can be awesome. The low water has some of the old road beds visible. Remember where you see them and come back when the lake comes back. These are good areas to fish as most will have small ditches along side them.
The crappie are starting to produce more keepers. 18 to 25 foot has been the best depth.
Remember to watch the other fishermen while fishing and running. Show sportsman ship to all and maybe they will show you some. Be safe and don't make those long runs in rough water. Trailering can be better on the equipment and safer. With the lake low watch for the many areas where you usually run. There may be some stumps sticking out.
