Inshore Fishing Suggestions

I received an email from a frustrated fisherman. I definitely have been there and done that before! When the fish don't bite for you, it certainly can get frustrating! However, when I get "the frustration blues" I go into that "stop thinking and start fishing mode!" Fishermen including myself always say, "There's fish biting over here, but when you get there they have stopped!"

I use to follow my father around in my boat fishing the same areas that he was and that always worked at least until I started really thinking about it. It seemed as long as I was just fishing and not thinking I did much better. Once I learned more about how I wanted to fish I started branching out on my own and haven't stop yet! When we are all fishing whether it's inshore or offshore and we get a call that "the fish are really biting over here" I always thank them but keep plugging at what I am doing. The reason being is that I don't want to go over to this particular spot and watch them catch fish!

The secret to catching no matter whether it's inshore or offshore is to believe in your plan and stick with it! I'm not going to say, "it works every time, but most of the time it will. A fisherman's plan can be derived from many so-called sources. This means it could come from the weather handed, birds, location, other fishermen, fishing records, and etc….

Weather Handed

When dealing with weather and in most cases when it comes to inshore "winds" play the biggest factor. It seems when there is a lot of wind it's best to fish areas that aren't exposed directly to it. So therefore when taking wind into the consideration it's best to know what areas are the most affect by the handed winds. It's good to make a note on which fish spots are affected most by winds handed.

For the Birds!

There is one thing about a bird for sure! If there is food available they will come to it. If you don't believe do this: with no birds around throw out some crackers or bread and watch. It won't take minutes before one and then many show up to eat the floating bread. And bread doesn't send any sort of signals like "come and eat me I'm here!" However, baitfishes do and it seems that those above are in the knowing and keep a hungry watchful eye out! So therefore where you have bird feeding you most likely have a catching opportunity!

Location

This is probably the most important part of the fishing catching puzzle, because you have to be where fish are to catch them! I'm sure you are thinking, "Why did she even mention that?" Well, I have an answer for that question..

As I come in from the ocean I see boats anchored all over the sound area. Some fishermen are in what I call fishy areas while others are not! To find that prefect fish holding spot you need to think like one. Lots of current is not where the fish are going to be. However, around the edges of these areas are going to be a hit with any fish, because there are classic feeding opportunities.

There are other good spots in the creeks, rivers, and sounds that a lot of fishermen also seem to pass up. I'm talking about "formed rips!" Bait is pushed to them, larger fish come to eat, and your boat will float with them. Add a few feeding birds and you got yourself the "prefect fishing scenario."

Other Fishermen

Now before I get into this subject and because I am a true fisherman "sometimes fish keep growing even out of the water!" So therefore you can believe some of what you hear about those tales told! However, if you see fishermen fishing in the same area you can almost know that their have been fish caught in said location at one time or the other. With that being said, "where you have fishermen you most likely had a fish bite at one time or the other!" The reason fishermen are like fish is because "patterns are developed!"
