Kabetogama/Namakan Fishing Report 10/1/07

Well another week of very different barometer changes kept anglers and walleyes moving in all directions.

Overall the catching of all species was pretty strong. Strange as it may be, some days an abundance of small walleyes were the norm, and the very next day the lakes put out fish on the top end of the slot and over.

Northern pike action very strong, live bait, sucker minnows, were the best ticket.

Best average depth for walleyes between 26-35' for both Kabetogama and Namakan. Reef edges or near the openings of windswept bays had the best potential.

Northern pike in the deep weeds they can be caught on the edges or weed tops, slip bobber live bait, or try Husky Jerks and X-Raps.

Crappies have been found near the Ash River, Kabetogama entrance and on into Namakan. Live bait, plain hook or small jigs are the ticket.

The East half of Kabetogama, on into Namakan is where the majority of the action is for walleyes.

Ball jigs of the three color variety work nicely for walleyes, glow in the dark good for the deeper water presentations.

Grouse hunters still report to much heavy cover, but prospects look great for the following weeks.

Duck opener slow, no bears registered this week and bow and arrow action picking up for the whitetails.

Good Luck,

Phil & Ellen Hart
