Kabetogama/Namakan Fishing Report July 7, 2008

What a week for fishing in the Namakan reservoir'Kabetogama, Namakan and the adjoining lakes all have reported good fishing.

Yes, the mayflies are hatching and showing up, along with numerous summer pests, but fishing and its co-part, catching, are doing well.

The walleye bite has remained strong throughout the day, with evenings being slightly better. Slip-sinker rigs with leeches and crawlers are leading the pack for presentation.

Walleyes are still being caught shallow; however, the most consistent bite is in the 21-28' depth range, with soft-bottom structure having the best results.

The main reefs are providing anglers with soft-bottom flats, as well as rocky structure for smallies.

Northern pike amongst the weeds, with bigger pike in the deeper adjacent waters.

It is most important now to fish the windward side of structures, and take note at the depth you catch fish as that may remain constant through the day.

Spinners work well on your slip-sinker rigs; change them throughout the day for more opportunities.

Finally the summer fishing patterns are setting in after a long, long Spring.

Summer activities for your lake area are at their peak; check with the tourism bureau.

Have a Great Day!
