Walleyes were sluggish Friday due to a lack of wind and high temperatures. We were able to jig up a limit near L Can of the Camp Perry range markers.Hair jigs with stinger hooksin John Deere green were easily the best jig of the day. Jigs were fished both bare and tipped with half a night crawler. Both methods worked with the worm tipped jigs holding just a slight edge. The fish were nice with most in the 2 /12 to 5 pound range. Charters were also taking fish off Little Cedar Point and Catawba Island.

The bite is in a transition period where many fish have finished spawning and left the reef area, but some active fish remain. Drift charters are still using jigs, but some have switched to worm harnesses and in-line sinkers and many are using a combintion of both methods. Trollers are doing well in the Niagra Reef and islands areas.

Stable weather this week should produce a hotter bite with east limits.
