It was a tough slow weekend for most of us. Everything seems to be scattered and the browns have been real tough most days. We just finished a clear sky, full moon pattern and that never spells good fishing for us.
Saturday, Rich Matlia and crew joined me for the first time. We took a few trout real early and by early I mean between 5 and 6 AM. The sun hit the water and that bite was over. We pulled lines and ran out to where a few kings had been taken. We immediately took a nice adult followed by a steelhead and another king, missed a few more and landed a lake trout to conclude our outing. A slow pick but we managed some nice fish.
The browns wanted black and silver and orange and silver fished 30 down over 40 FOW. The kings came on green e-chip attractors with a sweet pea fly and a crazy bitch fly. The steelhead also came on the crazy bitch.
Sunday was another day. Perfect conditions, cloudy a light chop, it had laid down over night and the bite was off for everyone we talked to. We lost a brown behind the boat landed a small king, a rainbow and a 20 inch Atlantic salmon. Had two other bites and that was that.
Mike Arlotto and his crew still fed me well and is back up next week for another shot. Mike; Thanks again for the wine, peppers and great food!!!
Fishing on the eastern end is up and down right now for sure. Brown trout will still cooperate some days in the near shore areas with black/silver Smithwicks, Dreamweaver and Raider spoons. Now that we are off of the full moon I am sure things will improve this week.

The walleye action was good Saturday on Oneida Lake as well, but Tony Buffa said Sunday was very very slow. Different body of water, but same pattern. Fish deep in 25-38 ft. of water and look across the soft bottom. North of Buoy 109 midway to the north shore and in front of Lakeport at the first dropoff are good places to take the drift. Three-quarter ounce jigs, particularly black/purple, tipped with a nightcrawler are working well. We are also finding fish in tight off of Sylvan beach right at dark as that area is loaded with bait.
The Salmon River has been quiet with the exception of the estuary where there has been a good northern pike bite. Live minnows, spinnerbaits and rapalas are taking most of the pike.
Sandy Pond pike and bass action has been real good. Fish the weedlines north of Green Point Marina with a white or yellow spinnerbait and hang on.
Oswego river fishing has been somewhat quiet mainly due to not many anglers fishing it right now. There are plenty of sheepshead throughout the river, catfish near the powerhouse and the walleye seem to have movedup into the river around the Utica St bridge.. Look for rock bass, perch and other panfish around Wright's Landing and the Coast Guard Station. The same bait continues to be working - worms, minnows, crayfish, bucktail jigs and stickbaits
Now is the time to schedule a lake charter. Area captains are available for lake charters. Take the kids fishing, it will be a quality experience that they will not forget.
