Well, the rain has finally come to the Lake Fork area. I only hope the lake will fill up before the spring. This week the water temp was in the low 50's. The crappie were biting like crazy. 36 to 41 foot was the magic depth. Small jigs and minnows have been the best baits. Work the baits slowly. The bass were around the crappie but were a little shallower in 29 to 32 foot. Large and small spoons were working well to catch these fish. The shallow bite was good with lipless crank baits and jigs. Split shot Wave Tiki Sticks or Lake Fork Tackle Zig Zags thrown in and around the grass and worked slowly has been a good shallow water pattern. The lipless crank bait has been good over and around points and grass. Work the outside points and then move down into the creeks about a third of the way back. When you get a bite or catch a fish slow down and work the area very through. The females will be staging on the points and around timber out on the ends. Flipping a jig around timber or into thick brush has been a good big fish pattern. You may have to hit a spot many pitches before you get a strike. Watch your line and keep in contact with your bait. The females will move into the creeks and hold on timber and move up and down like a thermometer when the sun warms the water. Slow rolling a big spinner bait over creek channels and drop offs will be a good big fish pattern.

The weather is suppose to get warm next week so get your rods ready and get out on the lake. This is a time of year staying on the lake as much as you can may reward you with the fish of a life time.

I have dates open for crappie or bass trips in January and February.

Give me a call and we can set up a trip.

Now is the time to book your spring trip so you can get the date you want and find a room.
