Kabetogama/Namakan Fishing Report 6-4-07

Fair weather and rainfall throughout the week is warming the water and raising the water levels nicely.

Baitfish, mainly shiners, are in spawning; walleyes, northerns and smallmouth are in shallow throughout the day feasting, making a nice offering for anglers.

Using small jigs or spinners in the shallow sand and soft bottom bays; walleyes are consistently being taken on live bait.

X-raps continue to be a hot shallow water lure, getting the attention of all fish species. Husky jerks and spinners accomplish the same tasks but not as reliable.

Many anglers on the water mid-day or during sunny periods are using slip sinker rigs in deeper water.

Slip sinker rigs perform well at 24-30', jig and minnow are your best choice when going after the 35-45' schools.

The west end and mid-Kabetogama are your best area for shallow water angling.

East Kabetogama and Namakan are kicking out walleyes at the deeper depths.

Northern pike are quite active outside the weed edges and smallmouth spending time spawning in the shallows.

Good Luck!

Have a Great Day!
