If I had to choose 3 lures for covering water fast, in a slow fashion in mid-50's to mid-60's water temps, it would have to be these 3 lure choices ;

Lure Choice #1. A walking type topwater lure like the Heddon Zara Super Spook. Color - Jimmy Houston Bleeding Shad. Fished on 20 pound test Trilene green Big Game monofilament line.

Lure Choice #2. Asuspending, hard-bodied jerk bait like the Heddon Tim Horton signature series, 3 hook model suspending jerk bait. Color - Blue or black back w/ white belly. Fished on 15 pound test Trilene green Big Game monofilament line.

Lure Choice #3.A spinnerbait (preferably a 1/2 ounce model) with either a white, or chartreuce and white skirt, white grub trailer, a small #3 gold Colorado blade up front and a silver #5 willow leaf blade on back.Fished on 17-20 pound test Trilene green Big Game monofilament line.

When water temperatures are in the mid-60's, like currently in mid-November in Alabama, to the cooler mid-50's like seen in mid December,Alabama spotted bass, small mouth bassand largemouth bass will nail either one or all three of these lure choices.

I'll always start my day throwing that big, 5 inch long 3 hook model, Zara Super Spook topwater lure first. No matter what the conditions I have to always give it a try. You don't know unless you throw! At dawn it could be foggy or cloudy conditions that always enhances the topwater bite.

If I'm encountering cold front conditions I'll soon know if these bass are in an aggresive mood. Usually evident...with little or no topwater bites. From time to time I'll still throw the spook.

But I'm going to cover water fast and try to attract those bass that often suspend during sunny, high pressure conditions. Thats when lures like the suspending jerk bait and the spinnerbait may draw in some very aggresive bites.

Keep these three lures tied on and you will discover that big spotted bass, big smallmouth bassand big largemouth bass will more and more become your quarry as Alabama's lakes cool down this early winter season!
