After the carnage we saw and everybody in the State of Florida saw the last week was
Something out of a bad dream, yet when we still go down to Flamingo we see dead fish everywhere! Most sadly to say are Snook we saw one Snook on Cape Sable beach that
Went 30 plus pounds and over 44 inches easily. In time they will all disappear just like the bad dream hopefully.I try to block out what I have seen (maybe I need to see a professional)!!!
Mike Larkin from the University of Miami who studies the Bonefish population in South Florida took a ride with me on a scientific mission to collect some of the dead bones for his study, most of them were small averaging 14 inches he says and he collected about 200 bones in all, we brought up some that were 10 lbs however!
But on to better things the Redfish have been chewing something fierce along with the Back Drum in the creeks with big Sheephead mixed in. The last week we are averaging
60 to 80 fish in the boat per day! Great rod bending action so the fish are eating. I am hearing that some Snook are coming to the table as well but not a lot!! Wonder why!
I had the pleasure to fish with John and Kim Waterer at Flamingo and caught over 70 fish on the day with a couple of nice reds in the morning!
In Biscayne Bay there are plenty of Bones around, we stalked a school of 100 a more fish out in deeper water and a couple of smaller schools in a little shallower water, this was when the air temps were cooler, this warm trend should bring them in the bay to feed on some of the better well known flats . Low outgoing tide will be the best.
When looking for the bones we ran across at least a dozen Permit cruising Oceanside flats but with bad visibility the came upon us to quick to get a shot at them. I have only been out in Biscayne Bay 1 time since the cold but I will be there all weekend and the first part of the week. It has to get back to normal sometime we all hope it is sooner!
