Fishing report for the week ending 10/18/09 with a strong cold front arriving on saturday the day before the front gave us west winds at 15 mph and higher than normal tides. Even though the cooler weather did not get here until sunday the little change of wind and cloudy conditions made for good snook and redfish on all the islands in the south of the sound. Fishing with Ed Jackubowski and his friend we caught redfish up to 8 lbs. and snook up to 9 lbs. on most of our stops. On our last stop of the day fishing a small island in San Carlos Bay we had the chance to see a school of small jacks tear into bait surrounding the island when Ed and his friend threw into the frenzy he was suprised to find that instead of a jack he hook a 8 lb redfish and on the next cast his friend caught a 8 lb. snook. There are still good numbers of nice mangrove snapper inside the passes and in the mouth of the river. Trout and spanish mackeral are everywhere. I did have the task of fishing on Saturday after the wind went north and increased to 20 mph. there were few places to go but we did manage to catch some nice snappers and mackeral. Tight Lines, we still should have some great days in October get out and fish!
