Big reds seem to be what every other angler wants to target these days. These bronze aqua goddesses play hard to get after being pushed here and there. Set up is the key to hook up. With the Power Pole it is so much easier to pole down scout and move slowly. You can see your tailing targets way in advance. We did just that on the busiest day of the week, Saturday. When Tom Patterson called me and told me he wanted his wife (Patrice) to catch a big redfish on a Saturday I was up for the challenge. After several large (close to gator size) trout early in the morning as the by catch. We finally could get our baits past the speckled escort service, The Trout. Tom's bait found it's way in front of the bull red before Patrice had her shot. I watched on only thinking what could I do to get that rod in Patrice's hand know how much he wanted her to catch a trophy red. But soon after Tom released his bronze beauty, Patrice got to see the set up unfold. The splash from a near buy boat anchored into the chop was just enough to send the massive school of giant reds to Patrice's bait. As I give them the blow by blow what is going to happen Patrice was ready for the task. The fish ate the bait charged the boat swam of pealing line from Patrice's own out fit (she brought just for this fish). Then I warned her about the fish diving under the boat and just on Q the fish did and Patrice dipped her rod deep around the stern while I trimmed the outboard with one hand and the Power Pole remote with the other. Because of her expertise handling of her rod minutes later she was holding her 47" X 25" red for a quick photo and release. That is when I had to go to my darker Costa Del Mar lenses because Patrice's smile was blinding me for the remainder of the day. Nephew Wade had to take part in the redfish action with his first redfish measuring bigger than the tape on my deck. One other morning Mark Leggett brought young son Coleman to catch his biggest redfish ever and he did just that. He tussled with redfish up to 36'' long and at one moment I visioned myself leaping from the gunwale of my flats boat at that rod pointed straight out. He managed to hold tight and after a tough battle Coleman was the winner today. I am sure he will not stop talking about this fish for a long time. I hope all that wrist twisting action did not hinder your golf swing. Jim Miller joined a few coworkers for a four-boat trip and Jim's party on my boat landed many over slot reds and one in the slot of the mix. This group from Lake Cogen always has a good time and have been coming back for many years. Thanks for all your support! Yesterday we bounced new penny 3'' Gulp shrimp off the bottom and limited out on trout and redfish. For some guaranteed fishing action call me and I will put you on the fish! 386 314 5656
