Fishing in Durban Harbour

We tried to go off shore today but the SW wind was pumping way too hard and the sea was choppy with big swells, so we came back into Durban harbour to fish.

Even in the harbour the wind was pumping and the water was choppy with a swell and the water surface temperature averaged around 21 deg. C.

We tried for some Spotted Grunter on 8lb tackle but it was not the right tide and the boat was drifting way to fast to allow the baits to get down and so we eventually put down anchor and fished in a stationary position.

We did not see any signs of Grunter but there was a lot of Mullet around and we decided to target these and Helena got the first one which was her first fish ever, and all the others we got were of similar size.

On our way back to the slipway I saw a few Grunter starting to tail.

Fish Species: Mullet
Bait Used: Prawn/Sardine Combo
Tackle Used: Light 8lb Penn Spinning Tackle
Method Used: Drifting
Water Depth: 6m
Water Temperature: 21 deg C
Wind Direction: SW
Wind Speed: 15knts
