I went out to the river channel today and checked the Sauger. I made a couple of passes each on three different holes, without any luck. There was good waterflow but I believe the water is still a little warm. The temperature in the river channel was around 52 and as cool as 47 in the backwaters. After a couple of hours of that we pulled out the crankbaits and went to catching some bass. The quality was not that great, but we did have two fish in the four pounds range. We caught them on a variety of shallow-running crankbaits. The smaller baits seemed to work the best. We caught the fish around submerged hydrilla on main lake drop offs in 1-6 feet of water with deeper water close by.
