We managed a near limit catch while drift fishing near the Canadian border July 4th, but we had to work harder and fish longer than the easy fishing of June.

Rod Bender was in the area near the border NE of C Can in big waves and the fish were scattered and hugging the bottom as several weather fronts moved through the area. We turned to mayfly rigs and worked the bottom very slowly. We also dropped several bottom bouncers and they took fish.

Overall the day was good but the waves wore out the crew and made fishing tougher than recent weeks.

Trollers were having a lot easier time taking fish but were working hard in the heavy chop. Dispies and jets were both producing.

Stable weather should improve the bite.
