Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 7/16/11

The bass have definitely moved from the deep ledges to the grass making the top water and flipping bite the bait and technique of choice for me. I have spent many hours searching the deep 25 plus foot water and have caught very few fish, but when I move to the grass part of the ledges we catch fish.

I think there are still plenty of deep fish but I believe they are suspending most of the day making them very difficult to catch. The other positive is there are now plenty of schooling fish moving throughout the lake, and if you're not worried about size you can catch fish on top all day long by chasing schooling fish. Fishing is getting better as it generally does as we get into August, a few cool nights and some wind and we will move quickly into the fall bite!

The Carolina rigged worm is a good choice right now for fish from 8 to 12 ft. I am also fishing other soft plastics along with Assassinator Buzz Baits and several other top water baits.
