Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 8/22/09
An up and down week on Guntersville, the bass seemed extremely inactive on some days and just the opposite on others. On the down days we even struggled for small bites, as it just appeared to me that the fish were buried in the grass and just did not feed. When we did find them we had some good catches and some size that would have competed in any tournament on the lake, with catches of 25 or more fish on the active days.
The biggest change to the week was the jig bite is gone and it appears when the fish were active the top water bite was the key to putting fish in the boat. We also have seen the fish start to move to the creeks as if the fall bite is just around the corner, and the fish we did find were on main channel points off the ledges for the first time in a couple of months. We also caught fish on a wacky rigged Mister Twister Comida, as the sun got high in the sky on the warm sunny days.
The fall bite is getting closer, there is a ton of baitfish and the top activity is picking up as it generally does in the fall. This up coming cool front could be the start of fall fishing and trigger some great catches going forward into September. I'm booking for September and October now, please call to get your preferred date.
