Grouper Bite On In The Gulf Of Mexico. Water temps around 60 at seventy foot and lots of action. Sardines and squid worked better than pin fish and that's hard to believe. We went out of Johns Pass about 16 miles out to some hard bottom and dropped down a few rods with cut bait. Large key west grunts in the one to two pound range was no problem and keep the anglers busy. One nice 24 inch gag grouper came to the boat on a whole sardine. No bites on pin fish and then a 26 inch gag on whole sardine. In between throwing back over seventy under size gag grouper, red grouper and grunts we boated three more keeper gag's, total of five. I have to admit to not catch any keeper grouper on pin fish was hard for me to believe but the bite was on whole sardines and squid. If your going out in this area you might want to make sure to take some frozen sardines for back up as the pin fish just did not cut it. Maybe the water temp I would think. Good luck Capt Jay www.fatcatfishingcharters.net
