Key west flats and backcountry fishing report

The Tarpon fishing off Key west remains slow, however if you put your time in you will get shots fly fishing and bait fishing. My last Tarpon was caught 2 days ago by long time client Matt Calceterra, he also caught Bonefish and Permit. The last full moon brought a strong worm hatch along the Atlantic side and I had the pleasure of taking Lee dun out for a little fly fishing for worming Tarpon. These fish are keyed in on a little red worm that hatches over hard bottom during the full and new moon of May and June and it is a sight that all fisherman should see once in their lives. Here is a video I shot of Lee hooking a nice fish on a worm fly. video

I have been spending most of my days fishing the backcountry east of Key west for Bonefish and Permit. My best success has been fishing the flats in the morning or the evenings while the water temps are lowest. I expect another worm hatch and a fresh push of Tarpon at the beginning of june so stayed tuned.
