The big story for clients of Sun Coast Kayak Sport Fishing has been the very good Snook catch and release action in area rivers. Recent winds made fishing the bays very difficult so Sun Coast Kayak Sport Fishing headed for the shelter of rivers in Sarasota and Charlotte county. The numbers of Snook have been very good and the sizes have been exceptional. Most of the Snook have been between 24 and 29 inches but bigger Snook are lurking. Larry C. of Bradenton hooked and fought an estimated 20 pound Snook until it broke him off in the submerged timber. When Larry's fish leaped from the water my initial thought was "that thing is huge" - I really wish he could have landed it. Dave G. of Toledo also hooked a giant Snook which after a 15 minute fight on light tackle wore through the leader and escaped. The best baits have been shallow running crankbaits of some size. Smaller crankbaits are producing but not as many bigger fish as the bigger baits.

Sarasota Bay is producing some nice Redfish and Sheepshead along docks and structure. The redfish have been in the low slot range mostly but a few bigger fish are around. The Sheepshead are averaging around 5 pounds but we have taken some fish to 8 pounds. Out on the flats roaming schools of Bluefish are producing some nice action when encountered and the Sea Trout are also co-operating on the deeper grass flats from Anna Maria down to Bird Key.

Sun Coast Kayak Sport Fishing is also now booking trips into the Miami area for Peacock Bass. Last year Sun Coast Kayak Sport Fishing ran over 60 exploratory trips to the area and has found some incredible areas for big Peacocks. Already this year we have run two trips into these areas and found the fishing to be picking up as the spawn approaches. The Peacocks in these areas are beginning to pair up and spawn now - this is the best time of year to take large Peacocks and great numbers. March, April and the beginning of May will be the best times to go for the best shots at bigger fish.

In addition Sun Coast Kayak Sport Fishing is also now booking the yearly camping and kayak fishing trips that we run into the 10,000 Islands and Florida Keys. These are amazing trips into some truely facinating areas with some of the best fishing anywhere.
