Mattern Guide Service on Sam Rayburn & Palestine

Hello Everybody,

JOHN 10: Verses 27 & 28: My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give unto them eternal life, and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of My Hand.

SAM RAYBURN:

Well this has been an interesting week. Monday began with a 29 degree morning air temp. then warmed up great by Wednesday. Water levels have been effected by the recent run offs. Don't get me wrong I am glad the Lake has come up to 161.24 which is about 3 feet below full. But anytime you get a sudden rise in the Lake in 3 days from how low it was it stains the water 1st then scatters the Bass with all that new water.

Water temps were in the upper 60's to low 70's last check and the parks are packed as well as Motels with upcomming Sealys Big Bass Splash happening this weekend. I am told there will be up to 4,000 entries.

I have been so busy I have not got to write a report till today then going back into it Monday again.

I have found that the Bass are still spawning in most of the Lake but only in certain isolated pockets. Great baits are White flukes rigged weightless and Frogs. Some of the Bigger Bass have Bit Frogs this week worked over the spawning Bass. Shallow running crankbaits also worked as I watched Cindy Mckeon from Colorado woop in some Bass on her shallow running foxy shad bait. Rattle traps for some Bass this week worked near channel grass by flats on some Bass. Great fishing every one and watch out on the Lake this week end.

LAKE PALESTINE: Bass are still spawning at Lake Palestine with some good bass being caught on watermelon senko type baits with the tail dipped in Chartruse dye. Also Flukes in watermelon red worked near banks have been catching bass. The spawning bass have been near thick grass in 1-3 feet. Water temps are in the upper 60's to low 70's. Looks like the colder temps are gone so the spawn can finish and Bass can heal up and get more stable. God Bless.
