San Jose del Cabo Fish Reportby Eric Brictson (1/06/2008)
Over the weekend the weather was spectacular, no wind and temperatures to 85 degrees, the action picked up accordingly. There were reports of larger cow sized yellowfin tuna being seen breezing on the Jaime Bank, but these fish were not on the bite. Perhaps there will be a winter bite for larger tuna since nothing really ever developed during this past summer or fall season.

Anglers reported the best action towards Cabo San Lucas, where they were concentrating for dorado or striped marlin. Decent numbers of dorado were found close to shore, striking on medium sized trolling lures and on various live, dead and strip baits.
Getting Tuna Up To Feed With Live Sardinasby Eric Brictson (12/23/2007)
Starting on last Monday, anglers encountered a whole different scenario than in previous weeks when they were catching easy limits of yellowfin tuna. The live sardinas have remained plentiful, but getting the tuna to come up and feed in the areas of Iman, Punta Gorda and Palmilla where they had been so abundant has been nearly impossible. Only a handful of tuna were being hooked into, still in the range of 10 to 20 pounds and this has the sportfishing fleet scattering looking for other action.
Better Tuna Action On The San Luis Bank and Off Punta Gordaby Eric Brictson (12/09/2007)
The hot bite off of Palmilla point became less consistent, though on some days the tuna were found there, fleets found better action on the San Luis Bank and off of Punta Gorda, this bite was exclusively on bait, so it was worth while patiently waiting and searching for the sardinas early in the morning. The average sized yellowfin were around 8 to 14 pounds, but there was also another grade of tuna mixed in that ranged up over 20 pounds.

La Fortuna to the Iman Bank Proved To Be Consistent Fishingby Eric Brictson (10/07/2007)
The action varied from day to day, one day it would be dorado that dominated the bite and then the next it would be the yellowfin tuna that were more aggressive, then on other days it was about a equal split between the two species. The fish would strike on various trolled lures, but it was the fresh live or dead bait that they really preferred. The most consistent place proved to be from La Fortuna to the Iman Bank.
San Jose del Cabo Fish Reportby Eric Brictson (9/23/2007)
Water conditions fluctuated from the first part of the week, when the clarity improved and currents were slack, then over the weekend some areas became a bit off colored, though none of that really mattered because fish counts for dorado and yellowfin tuna were very good throughout most of the week. Though crowds of anglers were down, the few that were going out did very well in the areas from the Gordo Banks to Vinorama, particularly on the Iman Bank.
San Jose del Cabo Fish Report Sept. 3 - 9by Eric Brictson (9/09/2007)
Last weekend forecasters had predicted that Hurricane Henriette would follow a more westerly path, with the eye of the storm passing some 100 miles or so off the Pacific coast of Baja where Todo Santos is, well that situation changed dramatically, as the storm had a mind of its own and changed course towards the northeast and slowly made its way to landfall at San Jose del Cabo in the early afternoon of Sept. 4.

San Jose del Cabo Fish Reportby Eric Brictson (7/29/2007)
The week started off with the fishing action improving before the storm, there were good numbers of striped marlin, dorado to 35 pounds, yellowfin tuna offshore with porpoise and even a handful of wahoo, as well as an assortment of snappers and amberjack. Since the storm water conditions became cooler and stirred up closer to shore, but 15 to 20 miles offshore the water was clean and 80 degrees.
San Jose del Cabo Fish Reportby Eric Brictson (7/22/2007)
The majority of charters are now trying their luck offshore, looking for the cleaner water and trolling a combination of lures and bait. There have been more striped marlin than any other species, often seen riding the swells on the surface, but at times they were not easy to entice into striking, a percentage were hitting on lures, but live mackerel proved to be the best bet, the stripers that were landed were ranging in size from juvenile 50 pound fish to hefty adult 150 pound plus specimens.
San Jose del Cabo Fish Reportby Eric Brictson (7/15/2007)
Perhaps the biggest local news report this past week was that on July 10 the Puerto Los Cabos Marina channel was finally opened, this happened by surprise during the middle of night, with an armada of heavy equipment attacking the last sand bar separating the Sea of Cortez and the marina basin, which will soon be home to some 500 vessels, ranging from pangas, cruisers to super yachts.
San Jose del Cabo Fish Report June 18 - 24by Eric Brictson (6/24/2007)
Persistent southern winds pushed in chilly Pacific currents, reaching as far as Los Frailes and this dropped water temperatures to the mid 60s, with a break of 72 plus degree water being found some twenty plus miles offshore. This influx of cold off colored water caused a dramatic affect on the fishing, scattering any inshore action that had been going on and forcing fleets to travel long distances in search of more favorable water conditions.
San Jose del Cabo Fish Report June 11 - 17by Eric Brictson (6/17/2007)

These fish were averaging 4 to 10 pounds, but there were some much larger specimens accounted for, including roosterfish to 60 pounds.
Fishing Gordo Banks to Los Frailesby Eric Brictson (6/10/2007)
Water temperatures have continued to fluctuate greatly, varying from the low 60s on the Pacific to the upper 70s in the East Cape area, but mid-week the cooler currents actually reached as far as Buena Vista, dipping down to 70 degrees before gradually starting to warm back up. These rapidly changing conditions has not helped the fishing stabilize and has made for inconsistent action, as concentrations of baitfish keep moving and gamefish are scattered.
