June has produced plenty of heat and the fun in the sun will begin for the kids. Summer heat has arrived and lets hope the fishing stays persistent providing great action for us anglers.
The inshore fishing is producing great catches of snook, near inlets deep channels and along sea walls. Live baits and artificial lures like DOA C.A.L. 4 ' jerk baits in Glow / Gold Rush Belly work great. The snook are very active early in the morning and late afternoon. Average size of the snook has ranged from 2 to 20 pounds. Top water plugs worked in a walk the dog brings plenty of surface explosions, the snook are very aggressive on the flats after rain storms as surface temperatures drop .
Tarpon are abundant in the icw waters near canals and bays. Live baits drifted near the bottom provide explosive action. DOA Terror Eyz in pearl color worked near the bottom work great, morning and late afternoon best time to target the tarpon. Outgoing tide provides best action as well look for rolling fish as clues to work baits.
Grass flats are holding a wide variety of fish at sunrise when waters are cool. Snook, trout, jacks, snapper, and lady fish are all present. Live shrimp, greenies and jigs under a popping cork, will get your rod bent. DOA C.A.L. 3” shad tail in Arkansas glow and top water plugs are great baits for anglers to get the rod bent.
Freshwater, the clown knife fish are very active due to all the moving water and rains we have received the past few weeks. Shiners and small twitch baits excellent choice for consistent hook ups. The peacock bass are on beds and channel edges, lure and live bait entice the peacocks to feed. Largemouth bass are abundant along channel and edges and deep holes. The shad are thick birds are a good clue to were the fish are lurking near bait schools.
