Hernando Beach Fishing Report

Capt. Josh Fritz

Fishing the waters of Hernando Beach FL the last week has been very good. Trout action is great in 10 to 12 feet of water on spotty bottom. Use a 1/4 ounce jig head with a white gulp shrimp for best action. Along with the trout we are catching big sea bass, sharks up to 6 feet, cobia, mackerel, and lady fish all in the same water depth with the same lure. Inshore red fish action is good on a incoming tide best early morning hours, live bait is the ticket for red fish action. Live pin fish and green backs rigged with a 3/0 circle hook is my best method that works great. Tarpon are just about gone for this year with just a few poons hanging around in the Homosassa area. July 1st starts scallop season and runs to September 25Th. The limit is 2 gallons per person or 10 gallons per boat a day, make sure you have the divers down flag up on the highest point on the boat so other boaters can see. Look for scallops in 3 to 8 feet of water on sea grass. If you want to skip the searching for scallops then book a trip with me I will put you right on them I also do a combo fishing and scalloping trip for up to 4 anglers. Give me a call ASAP not many dates left open.
